Aligning Philanthropy – Webinar Series with CSP

The Tharawat Family Business Forum, in partnership with the Centre for Strategic Philanthropy University of Cambridge Judge Business School hosted a 3-part webinar series called ‘Aligning Philanthropy’ for family business owners and family office to address key questions around philanthropy.

The goal of the series was to lay the foundation for more sustainable and strategic philanthropic decision-making among current and future philanthropists from the MENA by sharing practical insights and tools, and case studies. The audience was comprised of family business members, family office principals, and High Net Worth Individuals interested in philanthropy in the MENA region.

The series was moderated and hosted by Farida El Agamy, Tharawat’s General Manager, and Clare Woodcraft, CSP’s Executive Director.

 

Session 1 | Aligning Philanthropy – The Next Generation of Giving

During the first session, we were privileged to welcome H.E. Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, a leading regional and global philanthropist and founder of the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF), as the keynote speaker.

The session discussed the fundamental principles of philanthropy and gave an outlook on how the philanthropy landscape is changing. It answered questions like: What are the main trends in philanthropy today? How to decide what path to take? How to review existing charitable activities and embed them into a new strategy to preserve traditional giving and yet embark on a new journey of impact?

Session 2 | Aligning Philanthropy – Collaborative Giving

In the 2nd part of the webinar series, we discussed how joint and collaborative philanthropy can add impact and scale and what collaboration models have been successful so far.

Philanthropy experts Naila Farouky, CEO & Executive Director, Arab Foundations Forum, Egypt and Silvia Bastante de Unverhau, Chief Philanthropy Officer, Co-Impact, Switzerland joined us as keynote speakers and shared practical advice and tools in pursuing philanthropic works.

Session 3 | Aligning Philanthropy – Philanthropy, CSR and Corporate Strategy

In the 3rd part of the webinar series, Engr. Omar Safeyeldin, Chairman and CEO, Egyptian German Industrial Corporate, joined us and shared the inspiring story of his philanthropic work in Egypt and how he perpetuated his impact while changing thousands of people’s lives.

The session highlighted how family businesses could align their purpose and corporate growth goals as well as how to integrate CSR into the business strategy.
